Missing certificates can delay your admission. Start collecting documents early, especially those issued by government offices. This list is based on the TNEA 2025 brochure. Use the official 2027 brochure for the final list.
Core documents for most students
- Class 10 marksheet
- HSC first year (+1) marksheet
- HSC second year (+2) or equivalent marksheet
- Transfer certificate
- Recent photograph and signature, in the required format
Category and special documents
| Document | Who needs it |
|---|---|
| Permanent community certificate | ST, SC, SCA, MBC, DNC, BC and BCM candidates |
| Nativity certificate | Tamil Nadu natives who studied any of Class 8 to 12 outside Tamil Nadu |
| Government school details | Students claiming the 7.5% reservation |
| First graduate certificate and declaration | Students claiming the first graduate concession |
| Income certificate | Students applying for income-based schemes |
| Special reservation certificates | Ex-servicemen wards, persons with disabilities and sports candidates |
Students who passed Class 8 to 12 in Tamil Nadu schools do not need a nativity certificate under the 2025 rules.
Watch the certificate deadline
A community certificate obtained after the last date for the online application was not considered in the 2025 rules. Apply for missing certificates well before registration opens.
University admissions
Universities set their own lists, but your marksheets, ID and photo are usually needed. Keep an entrance exam admit card and scorecard too. See entrance exam details and each university page on our universities list.
Upload tips
- Scan each document clearly and keep it in a labelled folder.
- Follow the file size and format in the application guide.
- Make sure your name matches on all certificates.
- Keep the originals safe. You will need them when you report.
- Save application and payment receipts.
Where to get each certificate
Under the TNEA 2025 brochure, community certificates are issued by the authority set for each community. For example, ST certificates come from the Revenue Divisional Officer or Sub Collector, and SC certificates from the Tahsildar of the native taluk. Check the current brochure for your community, because the correct authority matters.
Your school provides the transfer certificate and marksheets. Ask your school early about any correction, since this can take time during admission season.
Timeline to get ready
| When | Task |
|---|---|
| Now | Check your name and date of birth on all records. |
| Before board exams | Apply for community, income or first graduate certificates, if needed. |
| After results | Collect marksheets and scan every document. |
| Before reporting | Collect your transfer certificate and keep the originals safe. |
Documents for scholarships
Fee concessions need their own proof. The first graduate concession needs a certificate and a declaration from the student and parent. The AICTE Tuition Fee Waiver needs proof that family income is under ₹8 lakh a year. Our college predictor can help you shortlist first, so you can focus on the right requirements.
Common document problems
- A spelling difference between Class 10 and Class 12 records.
- A community certificate that is not in the accepted format.
- Blurred scans or wrong file sizes.
- Applying under a category with no valid proof.
Fix these before you apply, as corrections are harder during counselling.
